When the Enemy Comes In Like a Flood
Bible verse of the day - Isaiah 59:19
New International Version (NIV):
"From the west, people will fear the name of the Lord, and from the rising of the sun, they will revere his glory. For he will come like a pent-up flood that the breath of the Lord drives along."
King James Version (KJV):
"So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him."
New King James Version (NKJV):
"So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him."
New Living Translation (NLT):
"In the west, people will respect the name of the Lord; in the east, they will glorify him. For he will come like a raging flood tide driven by the breath of the Lord."
English Standard Version (ESV):
"So they shall fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun; for he will come like a rushing stream, which the wind of the Lord drives."
The Message (MSG):
"In the west, they’ll fear the name of God, in the east, they’ll fear the glory of God, for he’ll arrive like a river in flood stage, whipped to a torrent by the wind of God."
What We Learn:
This verse reminds us that no matter how strong the enemy's attacks seem, God's power is even greater. The phrase "when the enemy comes in like a flood" describes how troubles, temptations, and spiritual battles can feel overwhelming. But the Spirit of the Lord "raises a standard"—a divine barrier of protection and victory.
God’s presence is like a mighty river that sweeps away darkness and injustice. No attack from the enemy can stand against His power. When we trust in God, He fights for us, lifting us above the storms of life.
Reflection:
- Are there areas in your life where you feel overwhelmed by the enemy’s attacks?
- How can you rely more on God’s strength instead of your own?
Take a moment to declare God’s victory over your challenges today.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being my defender and protector. When the enemy comes against me, remind me that You are stronger. Lift up a standard against every attack and flood my life with Your presence. Help me to trust You in every battle, knowing that You are victorious. Strengthen my faith and let me walk in Your power today. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
May this verse remind you that God is always in control, no matter what comes against you. Keep standing in faith!
