Pleasing God, Not People

Bible verse of the day - Galatians 1:10

New International Version (NIV):

"Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ."

King James Version (KJV):

"For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ."

New King James Version (NKJV):

"For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ."

"Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant."

"For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ."

The Message (MSG)

"Do you think I speak this strongly in order to manipulate crowds? Or curry favor with God? Or get popular with people? If my goal was popularity, I wouldn’t bother being Christ’s slave."

What We Learn:

This verse reminds us that our ultimate goal should be to please God rather than seeking the approval of people. Paul understood that serving Christ meant standing firm in the truth, even if it made him unpopular. People-pleasing can lead us away from God's purpose, but living for God gives us true fulfillment and peace.

  2. How can you shift your focus to pleasing God rather than people?
  3. What decisions do you need to make today that align with God’s will, even if they are unpopular?

Prayer:

Lord, help me to live for Your approval rather than the approval of people. Give me the courage to stand firm in my faith, even when it is difficult. Help me to be a true servant of Christ, seeking to please You in all that I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
