Pressing Forward in Faith

Bible verse of the day - Philippians 3:13

New International Version (NIV):

"Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead."

King James Version (KJV):

"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before."

New King James Version (NKJV):

"Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead."

New Living Translation (NLT):

"No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead."

English Standard Version (ESV):

"Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead."

The Message (MSG):

"Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back."

What We Learn:

This verse emphasizes the importance of letting go of the past and focusing on the future that God has for us. Paul acknowledges that he hasn’t yet achieved perfection but is determined to press forward in his walk with Christ.

Forgetting what is behind doesn’t mean ignoring the lessons learned but rather refusing to let past failures or successes hinder our progress. It’s an invitation to trust God for what’s ahead and to remain steadfast in pursuing His purposes.

Reflection:

Are there past hurts, regrets, or even accomplishments that you need to release so you can move forward in faith? What steps can you take today to focus on God’s plans for your future?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me to press forward in faith. Help me to release the things in my past that hold me back—whether mistakes, disappointments, or even successes. Teach me to focus on the future You have prepared for me and to run toward the goal of knowing You more deeply. Strengthen me to persevere in my journey with You, and may my life bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, amen.
