Living as a Pilgrim
Bible verse of the day: Psalm 119:19
NIV (New International Version):
"I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commands from me."
KJV (King James Version):
"I am a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me."
NKJV (New King James Version):
"I am a stranger in the earth; do not hide Your commandments from me."
NLT (New Living Translation):
"I am only a foreigner in the land. Don’t hide your commands from me!"
ESV (English Standard Version):
"I am a sojourner on the earth; hide not your commandments from me!"
MSG (The Message):
"I’m a stranger in these parts; give me clear directions."
What We Learn:
1. Identity as Pilgrims:
The psalmist acknowledges that our time on earth is temporary, likening us to travelers or foreigners.
2. Dependence on God:
There is a deep need for God’s guidance through His Word to navigate life’s journey.
3. Desire for Revelation:
The psalmist longs for God to reveal His truth, recognizing that understanding His commands brings purpose and direction.
Reflection:
Life often feels uncertain, and like the psalmist, we may feel out of place in a world that doesn’t always align with God’s ways. This verse reminds us to embrace our identity as sojourners, living with a heavenly perspective. It challenges us to prioritize God’s Word as a roadmap for our journey, trusting that His guidance is essential for navigating life with wisdom and grace.
Are we seeking God’s commands daily? Do we remember that our ultimate home is not here but in His eternal kingdom?
Prayer
Dear Lord, Thank You for reminding us that we are pilgrims on this earth. Help us to live with an eternal perspective and seek Your commands daily. Reveal Your truth to us through Your Word, and guide us in every step of our journey. May we rely on You to lead us in paths of righteousness and find comfort in knowing that our true home is with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
